Bio-massed energy plant coming to Wood County?
More than a year after it was shut down, the Domtar paper mill in Port Edwards continues to attract attention from those who want to use the site. After issuing a reuse strategy in April that details proposed plans for the facility should the Canadian-based papermaker decide to sell it, village officials and local economic development leaders began receiving more inquiries about the property.

Wood County Wisconsin Outdoor Report as of September 17, 2009
Early season Canada goose hunters had fair success over harvested fields. Dove hunters are having limited success on the public hunting grounds as the sunflower plots are still green. Bear season reports indicate bait station visits are becoming less predictable with all of the available natural foods. Blackberries and mushrooms are still abundant, acorns are beginning to drop and the cherry trees are full.
With the early opening to the archery season, some bucks will still be in velvet antlers. These bucks are legal game, but hunters need an additional free tag to keep the velvet antlers. Contact the local conservation warden to get the tag.

Floodplain Info for Wisconsin
If you're thinking of buying a property that is or may be located in a floodplain - this article will tell you what exactly a floodplain is and help you know what to look for.
Floodplains
Floodplains are normally dry or semi-dry land areas to which water naturally flows as water levels rise. Floodplains are typically found near rivers, lakes and the coast; however, many of Wisconsin's flood-prone lands are simply low-lying areas or depressions where water naturally collects when it rains.

Why Buy Land? Even the Media think you should!
New York Times – “The real estate market may have cooled, but investor demand may soon be heating up for at least one type of property: land.”
www.Bloomberg.com – “…farmland is having its biggest revival in almost 30 years as demand for corn and soybeans from Asia and the ethanol industry drive commodity prices to record highs. From Iowa to South Dakota to Wyoming, gains in rural land prices have ranged from 78 percent to more than 200 percent.”
www.DailyWealth.com – “Timberland has actually beaten the stock market since 1960 (as far back as data goes). Stocks did extremely well in that time… up nearly 12% a year. But the total return on timberland was even better, at nearly 14%. Another nice thing is timber is completely uncorrelated to the stock market. It makes sense… the trees have never heard of the Nasdaq bubble… and they don’t know what a War on Terror is.”

Private Property Rights
"Property" is more than just the physical thing—the land, the bricks, the mortar—it is also the sum of all the rights and powers incident to ownership of the physical thing. It is the tangible and the intangible. Property is composed of constituent elements and of these elements the right to use the physical thing to the exclusion of others is the most essential and beneficial. Without this right all other elements would be of little value.' " -- Dickman v. Commissioner, 465 U.S. 330, 336 (1984).
