Witter Field has Rich History

From wisconsinrapidstribune.com - When it takes the field in June, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters will become the latest group to call one of south Wood County's most iconic sports facilities home.

The first recorded use of the site, where Witter Field later was built, was in the 1870s, when local businessman Alexander Worden created a one-third-mile racing track, according to written histories by local historians Tom Taylor and Dave Engel. Cross Country Safety

From the Wood County Website
Cross-Country Skiing Safety Tips
Skiers should be aware that not all trails are groomed and that those trails that are groomed cannot always be groomed on a regular basis. The quality of the groomed trails also varies depending upon available equipment. Even the best groomed trails can be quickly destroyed by heavy traffic.
Skiers should not ski beyond their abilities by taking more advanced/difficult trails or allowing speed to build up beyond their ability to control their descent. Always leave space between you and other skiers and alert others when passing. If you have questions on trail difficulty, talk to office personnel prior to starting your skiing tour.
For more information on trails and fees see Cross-Country Skiing - Wood County Park & Forestry
