Bar Stool Ski Races

Here's a winter fun event that supports a great cause: Bar Stool Ski Races at the Wild Horse Saloon in Kellner on Saturday January 25th to benefit Every Children's Dream.

Registration and Check-in 10AM to 11:30AM, races at Noon. 1st Place $100.00, 2nd Place $50.00, 3rd Place $25.00, and Special Trophy and $25.00 for Most Creative. Chili, BBQ, hot dogs, drinks, beer and soda all day.

Holiday Happenings

Christmastime is coming and Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield have events to help ring this happy time of year.

This Thursday, November 21st, is the 14th Annual Holiday Parade at 6:30PM down Central Avenue in Marshfield.  See Santa and enjoy treats at the Holiday Inn after the parade.

Next Wednesday, November 27th, Heid Music will be providing music from 5PM-6PM along with the Celebration! Lighting at 5:45PM followed by the 7th Annual Rekindle The Spirit Parade in downtown Wisconsin Rapids.

Friday November 29th Marshfield will be hosting Family Wagon Rides 5:30PM to 7:30PM from China Chef and Adults only Romantic Buggy Rides 6PM to 8PM from the Holiday Inn.

Special Halloween Events

It's nearly time for the spooks and spirits to come out and play - and here are some fun events around the area to celebrate Halloween.

On Wednesday October 30th the Marshfield Library is hosting History Rising From the Grave at 7PM.  Learn the histories of Marshfield's Cemeteries.

And on Halloween night you can trick or treat without the street in Marshfield or Wisconsin Rapids.  Visit the Marshfield Mall between 5PM-7PM for Malloween with Costume Fashion Show or St Paul's Lutheran Church parking lot for Trunk-R-Treat from 4:30PM-6:30PM with bounce house, activities and more.

21st Annual Maple Fall Fest

September 14th and 15th enjoy all things maple at the Maple Fall Fest at Wildwood Park in Marshfield.

Start the weekend off with a American Heart Association Heart Walk from 8AM-11AM or the All-you-care-to-eat Regular and Potato Pancakes with Wenzel Farm Sausage from 7AM-1PM. And you won't want to miss the "Best of Marshfield” Maple Syrup Contest or the Maple Dessert Baking Contest.

Port Edwards Fun Fest

The 8th Annual Port Edwards Fun Fest will be held next weekend August 9th and 10th.

Friday is the Car Cruise; staging begins at 3:30PM at Edwards-Alexander Park and cruising at 6PM, ending with an ice cream social at the United Methodist Church.

Saturday's fun at the park begins at 8AM and includes crafts, a car show, tractor show, crafts, games for kids, and good food.

Independence Day

Get your red, white and blue - the 4th of July will be here next week!

In Wisconsin Rapids you can head to "4th on 1st Street" 2PM-dusk. There will be kids games, music food and more, plus watch the fireworks at dusk. 4th on 1st Street Facebook

Campfire Cooking

Camping season is here, and after a day of fun and sun everyone is hungry. Looking to improve your outdoor cooking skills or just want to learn some new recipes?

May 11th at the Sandhill Wildlife Area in Babcock join the fun in a Dutch Oven Cooking Workshop. You'll be able to try your hand a new recipe and taste what you make. The workshop runs from 10AM to 3PM and costs $20.

Prairie Chicken Festival

April 12th to 14th is the Prairie Chicken Festival all around the Wisconsin Rapids area, part of the 2013 Celebrations of Grasslands.

There will be bird viewing blinds all three days - reservation are required. Breakfast will be served at the Kiwanis Clubhouse in Kellner each morning at 7AM. Visit the Hotel Mead on Friday for the Grassland Gala, with vendors and exhibitors, crafts, children's activities, music, silent auction and more. And Saturday don't miss the Boomin' Brewery Bash at Central Waters Brewing Company in Amherst.

Annual County Snowmobile Ride

The 33rd Annual County Ride will be this Saturday, February 9th in Pittsville.  The 100 mile snowmobile ride will begin at 9AM at the Cennex Station and end at at the Blue Bayou Pub. Food and refreshments will be provided. You can join the ride anywhere on the route, see locations for stops and route map here 33rd Annual Snowmobile Ride.

Participants are asked to bring a couple of non-perishable food items for a local food pantry.  Drop off will be at the Blue Bayou Pub after the ride.

Speed Scrabble

Calling all workniks!  Bring the family and spell for fun and a great cause.  The Literacy Council of Wood County is hosting a Speed Scrabble Tournament Saturday November 10th 10AM to 2:30PM at the Wisconsin Rapids Mall.

Registration is $10 for your team of 4 and then $5 per game. Play a few games or a lot; there will be prizes and bonus rounds.

Fall Family Fun

Head to Altenburg's Country Garden weekends from September 22nd through Halloween.  Pick out a pumpkin, stroll though the Corn Maze, check out the Cute Spook House, visit the Straw Fort, try to win at the Duck Race and much more.  Lots of farm fresh produce at the farm market. Kolor For Kids Funfest

Saturday August 25th head out to Grand Rapids Lions Club for a fun family day and help raise money for the Children's Mircle Network.

Kolor for Kids Funfest runs from 6AM to 9PM with free admission and free parking. The day starts off with breakfast and then a Fun Run/Walk. Enjoy face painting, a rock hunt, raffle, inflatables, dunk tank, petting zoo, music and more.  Don't miss the Dove Release at 2:15PM.

Port Edwards Classic Car Show and Fun Fest

Port Edwards is the place for fun this weekend!

Friday August 10th is the Port Edwards Classic Car and Motorcycle Cruise.  Staging begins at Edwards Alexander Park at 3PM and cruising starts at 6PM. The one hour scenic ride ends at the Methodist Church in Port Edwards with Pie and Ice Cream. Cost is $5, which goes to the local food pantry.

Saturday August 11th is the 8th Annual Port Edwards Fun Fest 8AM-5PM at Edwards Alexander Park.  Admission is free to see the Car Show, Antique Tractor and Engine Show, Craft Sale, free kids Carnival Games, and free swimming at the Port Edwards pool.

16th Annual Music Fest

July 27th & 28th head to the Grand Rapids Lions Park for the 16th Annual Music Fest.

On Friday gates open at 5PM with Boogy & the Yo Yoz.  Saturday music begins at 2PM with Jason Michael Carroll.  There will also be Lawn Mower Races at 3PM.

Admission is $5/person at the gate - no carry ins allowed and please bring a lawn chair.

Disc Golf in Wood County

If you enjoy Disc Golf, there's a new course in Wisconsin Rapids ready for play this summer!

The new 9 hole course at Robinson Park is the first in Wisconsin Rapids, and is now one of 6 in Wood County including: a 12 hole course at Willow Run Disc Golf in Lake Wazeecha, an 18 hole course at North Wood County Park in Arpin, a 9 hole course at Alexander Middle School in Nekoosa, a 9 hole course at Wildwood Park in Marshfield and a 9 hole course at Braem Park in Marshfield.  It's free to play the course at Robinson Park, but you'll have to bring your own discs.

Marshfield Police/Fire vs Channel 9

It may not be the baseball game of the century, but it sure sounds like a lot of fun for a good cause.

Head out to the Marshfield Fairgrounds this Saturday, June 16th and watch two softball games -  local community members will play Marshfield youth at 10:30AM followed by Marshfield Police/Fire Departments versus WAOW News Line 9 at 12:30PM.

Enjoy all the activities from 10AM-2PM including face painting, bouncy houses, 50/50 raffle, basket raffles, concessions, and don't forget to have your picture taken with Arco and H, our K-9 unit heroes. Free admission, goodwill donations will be accepted to benefit MPD's newest K9 "H".

Homeless Shelter Benefit this Weekend

This Friday save money, have a great meal and dance the night away to benefit the new Transitional Homeless Shelter being built in Marshfield.

Start your day shopping at rummage sales held by St Vincent de Paul, Someplace Else Bar and Grill, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and many more. 

At 6PM head over to the Knights of Columbus Hall for a Roast Pork Loin/Chicken Dinner. Tickets are $25/Adults $10/Kids (price includes dance admission).

Then from 8PM to Midnight it's a blast from the past with a Sock Hop at the Knights of Columbus Hall - music provided by DJ Dew Dance. Admission is $7.
