5K Events Next Two Weekends

Get out your track shoes and walk or run the next two Saturdays in these charity events.

Walk or Run for a Good Cause

Spring has finally come to Wisconsin, and you can get outside and help out a great cause on May 3rd at the 6th annual Jigsaw Run at South Wood County Park in Wisconsin Rapids. Walk or run the 6K course around Lake Wazeecha - racing starts at 10AM. Proceeds from the event will benefit those with Autism in Wisconsin.

Bar Stool Ski Races

Here's a winter fun event that supports a great cause: Bar Stool Ski Races at the Wild Horse Saloon in Kellner on Saturday January 25th to benefit Every Children's Dream.

Registration and Check-in 10AM to 11:30AM, races at Noon. 1st Place $100.00, 2nd Place $50.00, 3rd Place $25.00, and Special Trophy and $25.00 for Most Creative. Chili, BBQ, hot dogs, drinks, beer and soda all day.

Orv’s Old Iron Show

If you like vintage machines then Saturday, September 7th you need to check out Orv’s Old Iron Show 7AM-5PM on Highway 54 four miles west of Port Edwards.  The day begins with a pancake breakfast then check out displays of tractors, stationary engines, vintage machinery and tools, collector cars and trucks and more. Admission is a donation, parking is free and camping is available. Proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House in Marshfield.

Time to Run

Dust off your running shoes!  The next two weekends in Wisconsin Rapids are a time to run - or walk -  for charity.

August 17th is the 2nd Annual 5K for Breastfeeding at the Centralia Center.  Pre-register online or the day of the event at 8AM. See all the details here 5K for Breastfeeding

August 24th is the Kolor For Kids 5K Fun Run & Music Fest at the Grand Rapids Lions Club from 6AM-3PM. Get blasted with colored cornstarch powder along the trail for the Children's Miracle Network! Port Edwards Fun Fest

The 8th Annual Port Edwards Fun Fest will be held next weekend August 9th and 10th.

Friday is the Car Cruise; staging begins at 3:30PM at Edwards-Alexander Park and cruising at 6PM, ending with an ice cream social at the United Methodist Church.

Saturday's fun at the park begins at 8AM and includes crafts, a car show, tractor show, crafts, games for kids, and good food.

Special Olympics Polar Plunge

With the weather so cold, you might consider "Freezin' for a Reason".

Special Olympics' Polar Plunge is Saturday February 2nd at the Grand Rapids Lions Club.  You can check in early Friday from 3PM to 7PM or Saturday beginning at 10AM. At Noon it's time to jump!

Too cold for a dip in the lake? You can still collect donations and earn yourself a "Too Chicken to Plunge" t-shirt.

Help Habitat for Humanity

You still have a week to donate household items and building supplies to Wisconsin Rapids Area Habitat for Humanity.  These items will be sold to raise funds to help with building project for low income families.

Items needed are furniture, tables, chairs, recliners, couches, beds, working appliances, books, CDs, VHS tapes, DVDs, records, sporting equipment, decorative items, and art. Businesses and Contractors are welcome to donate office furniture, building materials, doors, windows, electrical items, and HVAC.

Fun Halloween Events in Marshfield

These Halloween events on Saturday October 13th won't be scary, but they sure will be fun!

In the morning from 10AM to 2PM take the kids trick-or-treating at the Wildwood Zoo. Your family will enjoy a tour of the zoo while collecting treats while learning about animal diets. Cost is $5 per family.  See the event flyer here Trick-or-Treating at the Zoo

Saturday evening get dressed up in your Halloween best and head to the the 8th Annual Masquerade for the Chestnut Avenue Center for the Arts.  Dance to the music of The Pointless Brothers and try to win a prize for the best costumes. There will be a cash bar. Marshfield Police/Fire vs Channel 9

It may not be the baseball game of the century, but it sure sounds like a lot of fun for a good cause.

Head out to the Marshfield Fairgrounds this Saturday, June 16th and watch two softball games -  local community members will play Marshfield youth at 10:30AM followed by Marshfield Police/Fire Departments versus WAOW News Line 9 at 12:30PM.

Enjoy all the activities from 10AM-2PM including face painting, bouncy houses, 50/50 raffle, basket raffles, concessions, and don't forget to have your picture taken with Arco and H, our K-9 unit heroes. Free admission, goodwill donations will be accepted to benefit MPD's newest K9 "H".

Homeless Shelter Benefit this Weekend

This Friday save money, have a great meal and dance the night away to benefit the new Transitional Homeless Shelter being built in Marshfield.

Start your day shopping at rummage sales held by St Vincent de Paul, Someplace Else Bar and Grill, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and many more. 

At 6PM head over to the Knights of Columbus Hall for a Roast Pork Loin/Chicken Dinner. Tickets are $25/Adults $10/Kids (price includes dance admission).

Then from 8PM to Midnight it's a blast from the past with a Sock Hop at the Knights of Columbus Hall - music provided by DJ Dew Dance. Admission is $7.

JigSaw Run

This Saturday May 5th, is the 4th Annual JigSaw Run beginging at South Wood County Park in Wisconsin Rapids. The event is a fundraiser for the Autism Impact Corporation, which uses the money to purchase supplies and services for those with autism in Central Wisconsin. Nearly 1000 folks took part in this event in 2011.

You can register online or raceday from 8AM-9:30AM (kids registration ends at 9:15AM) and then join in the fun.  The Kids Fun Run begins at 9:30AM and the JigsawRun 3.7 mile (6K) Run/Walk starts at 10AM.  Raffle tickets will also be available from 8:30AM-10:30AM

Freezin' for Special Olympics

Feel like jumping in a lake?

It's Polar Plunge time again - Special Olympics' "Freezin for a Reason" fundraiser February 4th at the Grand Rapids Lions Club. Registration begins at 10AM and at Noon it's time to jump!

Not brave enough to test the water? You can still come out and make a pledge, enjoy live music from The Spicy Tie Band, The Lions Club's concessions, and cheer the jumpers on.

Jump in the Lake!

Ok, maybe it's a little too cold for a swim. But this Saturday many brave souls will be jumping in the water to raise money for Special Olympics Wisconsin.

February 5th is the Wisconsin Rapids Polar Plunge, sponsored by the Grand Rapids Lions Club. And this year on February 4th there will be a Student Polar Plunge - with local schools competing for the most pledges to win prizes.

If a cold dip in the water isn't for you, stop by on Saturday to cheer the plungers on, and enjoy some great music and good food. You can even take part in a Hot Wing eating contest sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings. There is a Post Plunge Party from 4PM to 8PM at Kim's Barrell Inn in Stevens Point.

Shuttle buses will be running to the event from Buffalo Wild Wings in Stevens Point starting at 9:30AM

Jump in Lake Petenwell

On January 1st become a Polar Bear, and help raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.

Be at the Lure Bar and Grill in Nekoosa at noon and brave the waters of Lake Petenwell. All participants must raise $25 to join in and will receive a t-shirt. Many other prizes as well. All funds raised stay in Central Wisconsin.

Help the Wood County Animal Shelter

Have you pulled out the old Christmas decorations, but you feel like something new this year? You can help out the Wood County Humane Society by donating them for their Annual Bake Sale and Bazaar. Just bring them by the Animal Shelter at 3621 64th Street North, in Wisconsin Rapids.

Then on Saturday December 4th stop by The Movie Gallery building at 1845 Eighth Street South from 9AM-3PM and find some new Christmas decorations and gifts, craft items and pet items, and decorated Christmas trees, along with yummy baked goods for sale. Happy Shopping!
