'Tis the season for lots of activity - this Saturday Wood County is full of fun!

Start out by making your sweet tooth happy at the Cookie and Candy Walk at St John's in Kellner.  Cookies and Candies sold by the pound starting at 9AM.

Saturday is also Rudolph's Country Christmas!  Special Pictorial Cancellation available today only.  Petting zoo, games, horse-drawn wagon rides, silent auction and craft sale.  Lighted Parade at 5:15PM.

Need a picture with Santa? Bring your camera to the M&I Bank parking lot in Marshfield to see Santa and Mrs Claus along with two reindeer.  There will be wagon-rides and refreshments available from 10AM-1PM.

Kick off the Holidays!

This Friday head to Downtown Wisconsin Rapids and welcome in the holiday season.

The fun begins with a Lighting Ceremony at 5:45PM at Veterans’ Memorial Park.  The Parade will be at 6PM from JC Penney over the Grand Avenue Bridge to 4th Street, then you can visit Santa at the Hotel Mead and enjoy some hot cocoa and cookies.

Carnival for Dogs...and People

Bark in the Park will be this Saturday, October 22nd, 9AM-1:30PM at Wisconsin Rapids Dog Park.

Trick or Treat at the Wildwood Zoo

Bring your kids, ages toddler to 12, dressed in their Halloween best to the Wildwood Zoo in Marshfield October 15th for Trick-or-Treating In The Zoo!

Begin at the Ludwig Building for a guided tour through the zoo visiting different animal exhibits while picking up treats, goodies and learning about the animals' diets.  There will be hayrides, a petting zoo and much more from 10AM to 3PM Saturday.  $5 donation - some activities may have additional fees.  Concessions will also be available.

Giant Pumpkin Fest Time

If you like to see the biggest fruits and vegetables then you need to get to the Nekoosa Giant Pumpkin Fest.  Farmers and growers from across the Midwest will be there not only with pumpkins but squash and watermelons and more, looking to win and set new records with their extra large produce.

Miss Mitchell the Flying Legend

Alexander Field in Wisconsin Rapids will host Miss Mitchell, a World War II B-25 Bomber, this Saturday, September 17th.

Head over early, by car or by plane, the event starts at 8AM with a pancake breakfast and spend the day enjoying an old car show, art show, scenic rides, great food and more.  The will be a raffle for a chance to fly in the historic bomber with proceeds going to the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.

Never Forgotten Honor Flight

The Never Forgotten Honor Flight, a Wausau-based organization that flies World War II veterans in our area to Washington to visit "their" memorial, is having a Bike for Honor Flight Saturday August 27th.

You can choose to ride 100 or 50 miles, or join in the fun ride. Rides begin at 8AM in Veterans Park in Wisconsin Rapids and the day ends there with a presentation at 5PM.

Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships

Be at South Wood County Park in Wisconsin Rapids July 21st to 24th and bring the family for this FREE event. The 45th Annual Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships bring water ski teams and individuals from across the state to show off their acrobatic abilities on Lake Wazeecha as they vie for the right to go to Nationals in August.

Parking in the park is $2, or free if you park on the street. Food and beverages will be available.

Independance Day weekend activities

If you're in Wood County this weekend - don't miss any of the fun.

Friday July 1st is the Independence Race Celebration at Golden Sands Speedway. Racing begins at 7:45 followed by fireworks.

Independence Day Celebration sponsored by the Armenia Fire Department will be held Saturday July 2nd in New Miner. Parade is at Noon, followed by a bake sale, games, horseshoe tournament, food and refreshments.

Get free hot dogs and brats at the Bradach Co warehouse in Rudolph Friday July 1st in the afternoon and Saturday July 2nd, Sunday July 3rd and Monday July 4th 10AM to 7PM. They will hold their annual fireworks display on Saturday at dusk in Rudolph Village Park (rain date Sunday).

The Christian Life Fellowship Arts Department will perform a patriotic concert at Robinson Park in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday July 2nd 6PM and Sunday July 3rd 10AM.

The Pittsville American Legion and the Pittsville Lions Club will sponsor the 50th annual Fourth of July celebration Sunday and Monday in Pittsville. Sunday events begin at 4PM including a carnival, kids tractor pull and music in Riverside Park. The 25th annual Heart & Sole Road Race also will be at 7PM p.m. Sunday (registration 5:30PM-6:45PM). Monday includes a kiddie parade at 11:30AM, the big parade at Noon, an antique tractor show and tractor parade, carnival, chicken dinner, craft displays, bingo and music. Fireworks will begin around 9:30PM.

Monday July 4th check out the Aqua Skiers Street Dance with Fireworks on the River. Events begin in Veterans Park at 11AM with food and beverages, live music, kids’ games and a fantastic fireworks show after dusk on the Wisconsin River.

Cranberry Blossom Festival

The cranberries are in bloom, and it's time to celebrate!

The Annual Cranberry Blossom Festival is Thursday June 23rd to Sunday June 26th at locations all across Wisconsin Rapids.

But you can start early at the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters game June 22nd. The Cranberry guy and Cranberry Princesses will be at Witter Field.

Saturday there's a fair, a car show, a quilt show, ice cream social, and lots of music. Sunday enjoy a pancake breakfast, kids fishing contest and a parade at 12:30PM.

Royal Event

Royal Event XXXI is May 22nd from 11AM to 4PM on the Assumption High School grounds.

This is the Assumption Catholic Schools annual family festival and fund raiser. The event includes live and silent auctions, a raffle, food, a bake sale, bingo, kids’ midway games and inflatable rides and a "Classic Car Cruise-In". A 5k Fun Run/Walk begins at Noon.

Nekoosa Walleye Days

Nekoosa Walleye Days is an annual contest to fishing on the Wisconsin River. From March 19th to April 17th fish caught between the Nekoosa Dam and Petenwell Dam can be entered. The Registration Station is Dragging A Line Bait And Tackle, 708 Point Basse Avenue in Nekoosa.

A special Kids contest will be held April 9, the Jim Freeman Charity Challenge will be April 13th and the Heaven's Devils M.C. Poker Run is on April 16th.

Ornament Design Contest

Calling all artists!

The Rudolph Country Christmas Committee and the Rudolph Community Progress Fund are holding an Art Contest. The winning design will be featured on an ornament and used for the Rudolph 2011 Christmas celebrations.

Deadline for submissions is April 1st and the contest is open to everyone in the community. Sales of the ornaments will go to fund projects in the Rudolph Area.

Jump in the Lake!

Ok, maybe it's a little too cold for a swim. But this Saturday many brave souls will be jumping in the water to raise money for Special Olympics Wisconsin.

February 5th is the Wisconsin Rapids Polar Plunge, sponsored by the Grand Rapids Lions Club. And this year on February 4th there will be a Student Polar Plunge - with local schools competing for the most pledges to win prizes.

If a cold dip in the water isn't for you, stop by on Saturday to cheer the plungers on, and enjoy some great music and good food. You can even take part in a Hot Wing eating contest sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings. There is a Post Plunge Party from 4PM to 8PM at Kim's Barrell Inn in Stevens Point.

Shuttle buses will be running to the event from Buffalo Wild Wings in Stevens Point starting at 9:30AM

Daffodil Days

While the weather may not be bright and cheery, you can spread some sunshine of your own during Daffodil Days in Wood County.

From January 14th until until February 11th you can place orders for daffodils to benefit the American Cancer Society. For just a $10 donation you will receive a bunch of 10 daffodils. And for a $25 donation to the Gift of Hope program, the American Cancer Society will anonymously deliver beautiful bouquets arranged in vases to area cancer patients. Also available this year is "Liv N. Hope", a special Boyds Bear designed exclusively for the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days. A donation of $25 you can order "Bear and a Bunch" as a Bear Hug for Hope to children going through cancer treatment.
