Holiday Happenings

Christmastime is coming and Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield have events to help ring this happy time of year.

This Thursday, November 21st, is the 14th Annual Holiday Parade at 6:30PM down Central Avenue in Marshfield.  See Santa and enjoy treats at the Holiday Inn after the parade.

Next Wednesday, November 27th, Heid Music will be providing music from 5PM-6PM along with the Celebration! Lighting at 5:45PM followed by the 7th Annual Rekindle The Spirit Parade in downtown Wisconsin Rapids.

Friday November 29th Marshfield will be hosting Family Wagon Rides 5:30PM to 7:30PM from China Chef and Adults only Romantic Buggy Rides 6PM to 8PM from the Holiday Inn.

Fall Events November 15th to 17th

Crisp, cool temperatures and a hint of snow to come don't stop the fun in Central Wisconsin.  Check out these events next weekend:

Friday November 15th is the 29th annual Fall FunFest at Immanuel Lutheran School in Wisconsin Rapids from 4PM-8PM.  They will have games, bingo, a raffle drawing, a cake walk, along with food and fun.

The YMCA of South Wood County's 2013 Turkey Trot will be held Saturday November 16th at Camp Alexander in Wisconsin Rapids. Pre-registration is over, but same day registration will be from 8AM-9:30AM. The ‘Lil Gobblers Race - a 1 mile walk/run for 5 to 12 years olds - begins at 9AM and the 5k Run/Walk begins at 10AM. There will also be family fun and games from 9:30AM to 11AM. Get details and registration form here 2013 Turkey Trot

Cranberry Tours

The Pittsville FFA/FFA Alumni Splash of Red Cranberry Highway Tour begins it's 12 year Friday September 27th and runs Wednesdays and Fridays through October 25th.

The 2 1/2 hour tour includes visiting a current marsh under construction, producing beds where you can pick fresh fruit from the vine, along with viewing harvesting, cleaning, and freezing of the berries. Lunch is provided by the Pittsville High School Foods Class.

Orv’s Old Iron Show

If you like vintage machines then Saturday, September 7th you need to check out Orv’s Old Iron Show 7AM-5PM on Highway 54 four miles west of Port Edwards.  The day begins with a pancake breakfast then check out displays of tractors, stationary engines, vintage machinery and tools, collector cars and trucks and more. Admission is a donation, parking is free and camping is available. Proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House in Marshfield.

Port Edwards Fun Fest

The 8th Annual Port Edwards Fun Fest will be held next weekend August 9th and 10th.

Friday is the Car Cruise; staging begins at 3:30PM at Edwards-Alexander Park and cruising at 6PM, ending with an ice cream social at the United Methodist Church.

Saturday's fun at the park begins at 8AM and includes crafts, a car show, tractor show, crafts, games for kids, and good food.

Waterski Championships

The 47th Annual Wisconsin State/Regional Water Ski Show Championships will be held July 18th-21st on Lake Wazeecha, South Wood County Park in Wisconsin Rapids. The event is hosted by the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers.

This championship competition is the largest ski show tournament in the world, with 28 teams being judged. Performances begin at 6:40AM each day continue to about 6PM, with each performance lasting about 1 hour. Cranberry Blossom Festival

If you like cranberries, or if you like festivals, or if you just love fun, head to Wisconsin Rapids June 20th-23rd for the 2013 Cranberry Blossom Festival. 

Before the festival begins you can check out the Grand Avenue Artist exhibit at the McMillian Library anytime during June or on the 19th there will be an appearance by the Cranberry Princesses, the Cranberry Guy and Rosco at the Rafters baseball game.

Thursday the festival kicks off with Lunch by the River in Veterans Park from 11:30AM-1PM and at 7:30PM there is a Free Movie under the Stars downtown. Friday's events include Dairy and Berry Breakfast, cranberry tours and the Cranberry Cup at Golden Sands Speedway.

Saturday is the 19th Annual SWC YMCA Triathlon and 2nd Annual “Cruise-In” Car Show, along with an arts and crafts fair, quilt show and family carnival. Sunday don't miss the Grand Rapids Firefighters' Celebration and the parade at 12:30PM downtown.

Attention Archers

This weekend, May18th and 19th, is the 6th Annual Badger Pro-Am at Robinson Park in Wisconsin Rapids.

All shooters welcome; you must shoot both days. Registration is $30 for flights and $80 for open divisions, and you can pre-register, or sign up Saturday morning before 7:30AM. Competition begins at 8AM. Spectators welcome, and concession will be available.  Guaranteed prize payout of $2500.

Campfire Cooking

Prairie Chicken Festival

April 12th to 14th is the Prairie Chicken Festival all around the Wisconsin Rapids area, part of the 2013 Celebrations of Grasslands.

There will be bird viewing blinds all three days - reservation are required. Breakfast will be served at the Kiwanis Clubhouse in Kellner each morning at 7AM. Visit the Hotel Mead on Friday for the Grassland Gala, with vendors and exhibitors, crafts, children's activities, music, silent auction and more. In Port Edwards it's the Lion's Club Pancake Brunch from 8:30AM to 1PM in the Port Edwards High School Cafeteria. Three kinds of pancakes to choose from Potato, Cranberry, and Buttermilk! Plus sausage, applesauce, beverages. Cost is $6/adults $3/kids 3-10, and proceeds go to youth softball and baseball.  Pancake Brunch

Annual County Snowmobile Ride

The 33rd Annual County Ride will be this Saturday, February 9th in Pittsville.  The 100 mile snowmobile ride will begin at 9AM at the Cennex Station and end at at the Blue Bayou Pub. Food and refreshments will be provided. You can join the ride anywhere on the route, see locations for stops and route map here 33rd Annual Snowmobile Ride.

Participants are asked to bring a couple of non-perishable food items for a local food pantry.  Drop off will be at the Blue Bayou Pub after the ride.
